F is for fennel

I had something totally different in mind for the ‘F’, but figs were nowhere to be found. We needed something else and literally stood in the store, translating all different kinds of fruit and vegetables. Cauliflower, broccoli, bananas, asparagus, beans… none that started with a ‘F’. Close to us was a vegetable neither of us had tasted before. We only knew the Dutch name for it, so I took out my phone to search for the English name. Bingo! I mean… fennel! There it was, the ‘F’.

Fennel smells and tastes anise, but reading up on it, I learned that fennel is one of the primary ingredients of absinthe! I wonder if that means that eating too much fennel (a taste I love!) will make you drunk?
