Wicked Wednesday: First birthday

On 4 June 2012 I started Wicked Wednesday, since Wanton Wednesday and Wank Wednesday both stopped. Now, after the first year I can look back on it and say: it is a success! Starting with 15 links in its first week, Wicked Wednesday now averages 21 linked posts per week. In week 40 we had the highest number of links: 33.

I could never have done this alone. Thank you all for helping me to make this a success. Without you, it would just not have happened. This is why I want to dedicate this post to you all, and highlight each and everyone of you who have participated up to now!

Linked every single of the 52 weeks since the beginning of Wicked Wednesday:

  • Molly at Molly’s Daily Kiss (Molly was my great support when I started this, and have not missed one single week of Wicked Wednesday. Thanks Molly, for all your love and support!)
  • The Long Bean (There’s an ongoing kinky saga on this blog and they have not missed one week of linking.)

Of course not everyone joined in the first week and some people missed weeks because of personal circumstances, but still I want mention each and everyone:

Now I have been thinking about spicing things up a bit over on the Wicked Wednesday site, by adding a weekly poll to the site. The idea is to have the poll up on a Thursday evening when the linky tool is closed, allowing people to vote until Sunday evening and then announce the winner. What do you think? Will you like this? Or should the Wicked Wednesday site stay as it is – only a place for you to link your posts?

Or maybe you have another idea which you would like to share? I would love to hear it!

Again I want to thank you for your support over the past year and the continued linking in the year to come. Spread the word and let’s break some records!

  1. I melt every time I read the first three words of this comment… πŸ˜‰

I like your idea of guest bloggers and will certainly give it a big think. I might change something and I might change nothing. Time will tell πŸ™‚

  2. Congratulations on the first year of Wicked Wednesday and may there be many more!!

As for a poll, not something that would appeal to me I’m afraid unless it were something unconnected with the prompts/participants so as not to create a competition atmosphere.

However, I wonder if a monthly poll of a sexy subject not directly related to the prompts might of interest, ie. “What is your favourite material for a flogger (a) Leather (b) Suede (c) Rubber (d) PVC?”

    Hope that helps!!

    1. Thanks for the congratulations and your comment πŸ™‚

I like your view of a pole. I like some of the ideas that have been given and I will definitely think about it. Thanks for giving me your idea πŸ™‚

  3. Congrats on a successful Meme! And thanks for keeping track. I would have had no clue how many I posted. LOL πŸ™‚

    1. I am kind of very organized and have been keeping track of who participated from the beginning of the meme πŸ™‚

  4. Congratulations on your first year for Wicked Wednesday! I am so glad to be a participant; it forces me to write, even at times when I don’t want to. This is so good to get the juices flowing, in every sense πŸ˜‰ xxx

    1. Glad to hear I… uhh.. the prompt gets your juices flowing *grins*

Thanks for being a participant πŸ˜€

  5. Wow, that’s quite a roll call! Thanks for that and for hosting Wicked Wednesday!!!
I’m not a fan of the poll idea unless it were to answer a question of the week, which I think the prompt does a nice job of if people choose to use it.

  6. Oh Rebel, when I read this yesterday I couldn’t believe I was near the top, with now 35 submissions to your wonderfully encouraging meme.
It’s a place I come to share my words & sometimes images alongside. From the very first time I participated I felt welcomed, I thank you for that.
You’ve personally helped me grow as a writer/poet, simply by being the lovely lady you are.
I don’t always get to find the time to comment on every else’s submission but I do try!
I wish you another successful year, Rebel and here’s to even MORE success ahead with it..

    1. Thank you so much for your lovely comment, sweet Pea! I have seen you grow and I know you will grow more. Thank you for supporting Wicked Wednesday the way you did and for your continued support πŸ˜€
And don’t worry about not always finding the time to comment. I know life can get in the way of that!

  7. Congratulations on reaching the first anniversary. Also a big thank you for hosting Wicked Wednesday- it seems like yesterday when it started.
When I started the saga you kindly refer to, I did not expect it to last as long as it has, but the many encouraging comments from the many readers that have come via your sterling efforts on this site have encouraged me to continue.
I echo both LordRaven and Molly’s comments that a poll for prompts is not the best idea. A guest prompt sounds good as it will help keep the ideas flowing.
Many hugs from me (and it is just me!) for your hard work.

    1. Thank you so much for linking your story every week. I really enjoy reading it and seeing all the things the characters experience πŸ™‚

And of course, thank you for the congratulations too πŸ™‚

  8. Hooray for one year – and congratulations for making it so successful! Let’s party πŸ™‚

A poll for prompts sounds like a plan (especially as those who are interested can vote, and those of us who forget won’t feel guilty about it …). Not voting on people reduces the popularity contest aspect. I liked Molly’s idea of an occasional guest prompter, too!

    1. Thanks for your support in the first year hun, and never feel guilty if you miss out. I know you will always be back πŸ™‚

    1. Even though you have not been around since the beginning, I just love the two of you participating every week. Thank you so much for your continued support πŸ˜€

  9. Congratulations! I wish that I’d gotten to know about Wicked Wednesday sooner and not lurked at the periphery for quite so long. I love taking part but more so, seeing other people’s stories.

I vote to keep Wicked Wednesday as is – I think the polling idea would have put me off, as it’s taken me a long time for my confidence in writing and sharing what I do to grow (and it’s got a long way still to go!) Seeing the quality of other peoples posts put me off from joining in for a while, and I think the polling would make that worse.

After all, it it ain’t broke, why fix it πŸ˜‰

    1. Thanks for your congratulations and thank you so much that you have joined in and continue to do so πŸ™‚

I particularly like this: “After all, it it ain’t broke, why fix it” – I really like this!

  10. I have to agree with Lord Raven and Molly. Voting systems don’t seem to work well because there is always someone who doesn’t play fair. I do like the idea of the voting system for prompts though. πŸ™‚

  11. Happy birthday, and thank you for the recognition to all who have come along side you over the year. Mal has been gracious enough to allow me to step in for him when his schedule get hectic and I have enjoyed every week. It took a while before I started letting the darker side on my work show but it has be a great time.
As for the pole, I am not to sure about those, my fear is it would turn this into a popularity contest and scare off a new unheard of blogger that is looking for a place to land and call home. I would think maybe a selection of potential prompts might work better. Just a thought.
I adore Wicked Wednesday and look forward to reading the others work each week.

    1. Thank you so much for your comment and for saying that you adore Wicked Wednesday. That made my heart melt.

Also, I really appreciate you giving your point of view on the pole. After seeing the comments I think I know what I should do πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you for your lovely message and for your support of the meme too. Indeed, long may it continue πŸ™‚ xox

  12. Excellent! Congrats on the success of your site! I know I look forward to the prompts each week, and I love reading everyone’s interpretation of it. Thanks for running the show so well… (and, goodness, I can’t believe I have submitted 23 times!…Wow.)

    1. Thank YOU for having submitted 23 times!!! I really appreciate your support in making the meme such a success πŸ™‚
