Smut Marathon 2018

Smut Marathon 2018

You might have guessed already that it’s no coincidence that the Wicked Wednesday prompt for this week is ‘marathon’. I have specifically chosen it because I wanted to use this opportunity to tell you more about the Smut Marathon. For the first time since I started this meme I am even posting my Wicked Wednesday post early to get maximum exposure and point you all towards the writing competition of the year!

I am so excited to get this going, and actually, it’s already started, because the entries have opened on 15 December. But, let me tell you more first…

What is the Smut Marathon?

A marathon is an endurance race and the Smut Marathon is all about endurance too. Endurance and writing. If you decide to commit, you have to be prepared to be committed until the end of November. I mean, when you start this race you do so to win, right? It’s not only an endurance race for writers, but also for the readers and the jury. They too have to commit themselves for the entire year.

Who can participate?

Anyone. Whether you have written erotica before or only ever had the desire to try your hand at it, you can participate in the Smut Marathon. Even published authors can participate. The fact that someone is a successful blogger or a published author is not a guarantee that the final round will be reached. The same goes for marathon runners too, right? Even when they are really, really good runners, they are still not guaranteed a first place.
Just like anyone can participate, anyone can win too!

Why should you participate?

Even if you are an experienced writer, the Smut Marathon challenges you to think out of the box, to discover new things in your writing and that of others. You learn from feedback by the readers and the jury members. The challenges (assignments) can range from writing on sentence to writing an entire story, depending on where in the race you are.
The main reason why you should participate is that the Smut Marathon is fun!

Where will it happen?

It will all happen on the Smut Marathon site and behind the scenes. I will send the assignments to the participants and make sure all entries are posted on the Smut Marathon site. I will keep an eye on the voting, put the results in an Excel file and calculate the numbers of each round before I publish the result of a voting round. Writers are not to disclose which story they have written, until after the results for a voting round have been announced. Only then writers can place their stories on their own sites with a (optional) link back to the results post on the Smut Marathon site.

When will it happen?

The entries have opened on 15 December 2017 and you have until 23.59 CET on 20 January 2018 to enter for the Smut Marathon. The first assignment will be sent to the participants on 28 January and two weeks later the first voting round will start.
Before the first round start, the participants will be announced on the Smut Marathon website.
You can find the full planning of the Smut Marathon 2018 on the site. Make sure you keep an eye on those dates!

How do you participate?

Easy!
Sign up on the Smut Marathon website. Within three days you get a confirmation email. In the week after the entries have closed and before you get the first assignment, you will get an email with all the practical information you will need during the race.
On 28 January 2018 you get the first assignment in your email. All requirements for the assignment will be mentioned in the email. Follow them!
You have two weeks to complete it and send it to me by email.

The most important rule

The most important rule of the Smut Marathon is that you don’t tell anyone which story you have written, the same way you don’t talk about the assignment. The assignment becomes know when all entries are anonymously posted on the Smut Marathon site for the voting round and the authors of the stories become known when the results of the voting round are posted.

Now it’s your turn

I have already received several entries, but I am sitting here, keeping an eye on my inbox, waiting for YOU to enter the Smut Marathon. Yes, you and you and you too!
Come on, don’t doubt yourself, come join the fun and enter the marathon.

It’s all up to you now!

  1. I think I will give this a try, in order to improve my writing skills. I want to write more like a writer (like some of the sex bloggers I enjoy reading) and less like a reporter (‘I did this, and then that, and then this happened’).
