Halfway There

halfwayToday is the beginning of day 15 of NaNoWriMo and I have not yet written a word for it. However, the fifteenth day marks the halfway mark for the time you have to write your story.

I passed another halfway mark: the number of words.

Yesterday, I reached 25.000 words and now have good hope that I will make it through this year’s NaNoWriMo. That doesn’t sound very optimistic, does it?

For this year’s NaNoWriMo I have decided to re-write a story that I have written when I was a teenager. It was my very first novel that I have written and even though I was a teenager, it had an erotic fee to it. No, I didn’t describe any sex in it, but the hint of erotic thoughts was there. The setting was and still is magical and mysterious. The characters are sweet and loving. There have been deaths in the story, but no sex. Serious, I am halfway through it, and I have not yet written one sex scene.

Uhhh… and here I thought that I was going to re-write the story to an adult version of it. Sex just didn’t fit in the story up to now. The first part of the book was concentrated on getting the story lines in place, introducing my characters and establishing their position in the book. There’s intrigue and jealousy. Longing and maybe even a little bit lust. But no sex.

Yesterday, about 300 words after I have passed the 25.000 mark, I ended part 1 of the story. Tomorrow, or rather, later today, I will start on part 2. This will be the part where the sex happens, where characters come to each other and come with each other. This is the part where jealousy will show the dark side of ones character and love will conquer. This is the part where the lies of the first part will be revealed to those who trusted the liars.

I think it was necessary to write the first part, to build it up and set the stage, so to speak. Even though I am re-writing the story from my teenage years, and really am following it in general lines, the story I am writing for NaNoWriMo is totally different. Yes, the characters are the same, but maybe more mature than they were when I was a fourteen year old girl.

I’m halfway there and it should be downhill from here… right?
